Michael Zhang wins over £26k in Bristol poker tournament

Recently in a poker tournament in Bristol, a young player by the name of Michael Zhang won over £26k in the UK and Ireland Poker Tour event aka UKIPT.

Zhang is still a student at just 20 years old who is studying maths at Birmingham Uni and qualified for the tournament on the Internet in a buy-in comp for just £11.

Rainbow Casino, located in Bristol was host to the event and Mr Zhang worked his way up to being in the lead on the final day of the tournament.

Zhang commented on the result:

“This is the biggest win of my career so far. I’m going to use the money to be able to play more competitions for higher stakes, both live and online.

I was going to enter the competition anyway, but thought I’d flick into a satellite competition and qualify that way.”

(A poker satellite tournament is a qualifying event and the prize for the winner is often entry to a bigger and more lucrative event).

Zhang continued:

“This is my fourth UKIPT event but I’ve never cashed before so it was pretty good. I play in the monthly six-max at Dusk Til Dawn and have won that in successive months so I do play quite a few live tournaments.”
